Hemper Snail XL Bong

The Hemper Snail XL Bong is a snail in borosilicate glass at XL scale — the spiral shell forms the water chamber and the neck rises from the top of the shell. It's one of the most sculptural pieces Hemper have produced, and one of the few where the shape is doing something clever rather than just decorative: a spiral is a lot of chamber in a compact footprint.

Like all Hemper theme glass it was a single limited batch. It isn't a catalogue line and it won't be made again.

How it performs

The shell carries its weight low, so it's steadier than the shape suggests. Standard bowl and downstem. The shell chamber holds a good volume of water and the draw is smooth; the spiral is moulded on the outside rather than forming an internal maze.

Hemper's XL pieces are a significant step up from the regular releases — taller, wider in the chamber and noticeably heavier. This is a centrepiece rather than a bedside piece.

Looking after it

The shell interior is a single chamber, so it cleans like a round beaker. Water can sit in the curve of the shell after rinsing — rotate it while draining, then dry on a rack. Our guide on how to clean a bong covers the routine.
